Our Hybrid Trips include four oar boats, one paddle boat and two inflatable kayaks. Each day, you may choose the high energy of the paddle boat team or to ride in one of the oar rafts. Our one-man inflatable kayaks are also an option on most days.
 Each of our 18' oar rafts are rowed by one of our highly qualified guides and carry 3 or 4 trip participants. In flat water, the oar rafts offer the opportunity for relaxation, reflection and listening to your guide's canyon lore. They are less likely to flip in white water than the paddle boats.
The 14' paddle boat requires more active involvement. Each day's paddle team will include 4 - 6 members plus our paddle captain. On the paddle boat, you'll learn new paddle boat commands including "all-forward", "hard back", and "DIG". You’ll work as a team to power the boat through both flat water and wild rapids, navigating holes, huge waves, and eddies.
 Most trips are composed of a range of participant interest, from those wanting to paddle full-time to those wanting to travel on the oar boats full time (not wanting to paddle at all). We also send TWO inflatable kayaks for use in the flat water and some of the rapids (depending on your ability and sense of adventure) to accommodate surplus paddle interest.
Please note that we cannot guarantee 100% paddle boat participation on Hybrid trips. We do not ask for an expression of “paddling interest” because we want to allow the opportunity for participation in the paddle boat for everyone - even those who don’t know if they will want to paddle or not. We have also found that sometimes the most avid of paddlers become tired and end up wanting a day off - something they would never have predicted pre-trip. Therefore, we do not attempt to address paddling interest pre-trip. At the same time, our experience has been that avid paddlers will most likely be able to paddle most every day if not every day.
